Stardust | Study II (2022) is a meditation on origin, transience, and cosmic matter. Built from silver dust and platinum leaf, the surface holds a delicate tension between the infinitesimal and the infinite; recalling the shared material lineage between the human body and the stars.
The work begins with a hand-prepared organic gesso ground on the finest linen and board, establishing a receptive, luminous field. Silver dust is dispersed and settled across the surface, its particulate nature evoking celestial debris, atmospheric residue, and the slow drift of matter through space. Platinum leaf, rare, enduring, and resistant to corrosion, is introduced as both anchor and illumination, catching light with a subdued, restrained radiance.
At this intimate scale, the painting rewards close attention. Subtle tonal shifts and quiet scintillation emerge as the viewer moves, echoing the way starlight reveals itself gradually over time. The surface feels both ancient and immediate: a compressed moment where cosmic time is held in suspension.
Float-mounted within a bespoke Ayous wood tray frame, Stardust | Study I sits slightly apart from the wall, reinforcing its sense of quiet elevation.
The work speaks of endurance and impermanence, of matter dispersed and gathered again; a contemplative object that invites stillness, reflection, and an awareness of our place within space and time.
