The Equinox Study explores balance, transition, and the moment of suspension between opposing forces. The work is built through a slow, deliberate process, beginning with layers of a hand-made organic gesso ground composed of earth and mineral matter. A Mont Blanc blue ink is absorbed into the surface, which settles into the fissures created through pressure and drying.

Gold leaf is applied to the divided ground, its luminosity held and protected by encaustic wax burned into the surface. Heat, touch, and time fuse the materials together, allowing subtle fractures, shifts, and tonal variations to emerge. These marks are not corrected but embraced, echoing natural processes of erosion, compression, and change.

The divided composition refers both to the equinox; a moment of equilibrium between light and dark, and to the psychological and material thresholds that run throughout my  practice.

The surface records a quiet dialogue between radiance and depth, fragility and endurance, stillness and movement.
