Sovereign European Painting Prize | Winner
Susan Gunn gained international recognition when she was awarded the Sovereign European Art Prize in 2006. The selection for the prize was by nomination only; she was put forward by by Dr Colin Self and writer and curator, Cherry Smyth.
On Gunn’s painting, the chair of the judges, Sir Peter Blake said…

The inaugural Sovereign European Art Prize, a collaboration between the Sovereign group and Candlestar cultural agency, was launched at The Hayward Gallery in 2005 and culminated in an exhibition and prize giving at Bonhams, London in 2006.
The Sovereign Art Foundation announced the names of the the shortlisted artists on the 21st November 2005. The Foundation established across Europe received over 250 recommendations from 20 European Countries.
