The Enterprise Centre | A Site Specific Art Commission For Pioneering Low Carbon Building

Susan Gunn and John French

In 2014 Susan was commissioned to make a site specific painting installation for the UK's pioneering low carbon commercial  building. -The Enterprise Centre is situated at the gateway to The University of East Anglia.

The artwork was commissioned by John French, Project Director for the Enterprise Centre with a view to promoting art in public spaces. The commission reflects the values intrinsic to the architecture and the low carbon mission of the project. It was co-sponsored by Ali Naini, Turquoise International Ltd together with the Adapt Low Carbon Group.

In collaboration with the award winning sustainability Architects, Archetype, and Adapt Low Carbon, Gunn created a painting to mirror the concept, ambition and ethos of the building.

The prodigious painting installation, Terra Memoria is a 20 meter painting consiting of 11 separate panels. The commission was unveiled on the 29th September by Nichola Johnson OBE who said...

“Susan’s work is an absolutely wonderful example of how incredibly complex simple things can be and also how incredibly simple complexity can be…”

Ben Humphries, Director of Architype Architects who have overseen the project commented “The iconic artwork and concept mirror the ambitious remit of building an innovative low carbon and bio-renewable building in the 21st century. The work is beautifully sympathetic to the ethos of the project, using sustainable and natural materials to celebrate the coming together of ambition, architecture and art.”
